Pershing Square
in Downtown Los Angeles has undergone many changes throughout its 160 year history. The current design, by Ricardo Legoreta and Laurie Olen, has been critiqued for extensive use of concrete and minimally providing shade to users.
In the spirit of ongoing changes by Agence Ter and Gruen Associates, this redesign addresses said issues with a new softscape and cultural center to serve the people. Flowing geometries mimic historical circulation while the public enjoys new amenities including sports courts, a water feature, art gallery, workshops, apartments, small shops, and playground.
